“American Tune:” A Spring Concert featuring the Schola Cantorum, Swingin’ Saints, and Concert Chorale

7:30 pm

April 27, 2018

The diversity of American culture is an expression of its people. This concert explores some of the diversity in American music through its many styles. Compositions by Paul Simon, Dolly Parton, Leonard Bernstein, Morton Lauridsen, Abbie Bettnis, William Billings, Irving Berlin, and music from Native, African, Spanish, and Irish American cultures, will carry us through music of many styles– art (“classical”) music, pop song, jazz, blues, Revivalist hymns, gospel, and folk music– as experienced through the American musical lens. The concert will feature the USF premiere of Robert Ray’s joyful “Gospel Mass.”
